Ed Chats is a virtual professional development event series. These sessions aim to educate, empower and equip classroom teachers with new strategies to bring back to the classroom. We believe in creating lifelong learners, within both our student and teacher communities.

In this session we will explore Bloom’s Taxonomy, the five domains of SEL with a focus on self-awareness and self-management and how we support explicit instruction with independent and shared work.​

About the presenter: ​
Christine Johns-Harris received her undergraduate degree from Syracuse University, in Inclusive Elementary and Special Education, and African-American Studies, and her graduate degree in Curriculum and Instruction, with a focus on Urban Education, from Columbia University Teachers College. She began her career in preschool and early childhood education, serving communities and schools in the Bronx, NY. Since relocating to Atlanta, she has continued to support students and families as a middle school special education teacher, special education coordinator, curriculum developer, instructional coach, charter school board member, advocate, and professional development facilitator and consultant. Her experience ranges from early childhood, through high school, and adult learning, rural, urban, and suburban districts, and across traditional public school, charter school, and virtual school environments. Christine has enjoyed serving students and teachers for the past 23 years, and sharing her love of literacy. ​

Description:
How do we run our classes differently if we take an asset-focused stance and students are regularly asked to show what they can do instead of being faced with what they cannot do?​
Although the content applies to all grade levels, examples will be taken from Grades 1 to 9.​

About the presenter:
Dr. Marian Small is an internationally renowned mathematics educator, author, and professional learning consultant. Dr. Small, whose career in education has spanned more than four decades, is considered one of the most influential math educators in Canada. She has authored or co‑authored more than 100 math resources and travelled to mathematics classrooms around the world to provide consultation focused on improving understanding and performance in K–12 mathematics.​
